Today marks the 60th day of the 89th Legislative Session, which is the deadline for filing bills and joint resolutions other than local bills, emergency appropriations, and bills that have been declared an emergency by the governor. 

As of the deadline this evening, the preliminary information on Texas Legislature Online (TLO) shows there were more bills filed this session than previous sessions with a total of 5,584 House Bills and 3,023 Senate Bills for a total of 8,607 HBs & SBs. Preliminary totals show 823 of those were filed today. 

For comparison, during the 88th Regular Session on the 60th day, the preliminary information showed 5,292 House Bills and 2,565 Senate Bills filed for total of 7,857 HBs & SBs* and on the bill filing day a total of 980 bills were filed. 

*Note the final totals after all bills were larger for the 88th Regular Session with 5,413 House Bills and 2,633 Senate Bills filed for a total of 8,046 HBs & SBs.
