The College Board and the O’Donnell Foundation have partnered together to raise funds to pay for up to four hundred Texas teachers –specifically AP Biology, AP Latin, and AP Spanish Literature teachers–to attend an AP Summer Institute (APSI) this summer.

Budget cuts have restricted funds that were historically provided for AP teachers to attend an in-state AP Summer Institute. Attending an AP Summer Institute is crucial for AP Biology, AP Spanish Literature, and AP Latin teachers seeking to ensure a smooth transition to the redesigned courses which begin in Fall 2012 and mark a shift toward 21st century skills, inquiry-based teaching, and are closely aligned with best practices in higher education.

Filling in a needed gap, the O’Donnell Foundation and the College Board have established a subsidy program to fund registration for AP Summer Institutes (4-5 day face-to-face intensive workshops) for teachers of the redesigned subjects in Texas. This is temporary funding as the groups are hopeful that Texas will reinstate future funding for AP teacher professional development.

The funds are available to qualifying teachers of public or private schools. All applications must be completed and submitted no later than April 29, 2012.
