On January 21, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick wrote a letter to the chair of the state’s Expert Vaccination Allocation Panel. He asks them to revise the COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan to ensure the state is prioritizing those at higher risk, and to give Texans clear ideas of when they can expect to be vaccinated. In order to fulfil these goals, he asks them to consider creating subgroups for prioritization within the 1B list, and includes the following recommendations:
- First, once current vaccination appointments are honored, consider taking two weeks to vaccinate those who are 75 and over
- Next, vaccinate all teachers and school staff over 65
- Then, vaccinate the remaining 65 plus group by breaking them down into smaller subgroups that could be based on an odd/even birth year, month, or day
