Lt. Governor David Dewhurst issued additional interim charges pertaining to border security on December 4.  Dewhurst issued the charges to the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Rural Affairs & Homeland Security.  The charges are as follows:
 
Effective Security
Study the effectiveness of the recent Department of Public Safety surge operation and make recommendations for future surges.
 
Evaluate the most effective methods to deal with evolving threats, deter illegal immigration and deter transitional and drug-related violence and crime.
 
Comprehensive Reporting
Study whether current crime statistics reporting accurately measures all crime and crimes related to illegal border activities.
 
Make recommendations on how to best take advantage of available crime data and identify potential barriers to adopting a more comprehensive statewide system.
 
Dewhurst will continue to release his interim charges in the coming weeks.
