State Board of Education Elections
 
During the 2014 election cycle, seven of the fifteen members of the State Board of Education (SBOE) have espiring terms.  The list below shows candidates and incumbents (i) for those seven board seats.  The incumbents are listed first followed by challengers who have filed for election so far.  Incumbents in bold have already filed for re-election. 
 
Candidates have until the December 9 deadline to file for election.

Key Election Dates
 
Below are key dates for the 2014 elections as well as two special elections to replace retired legislators.  Candidates for the 2014 election began filing for their place on the ballot on November 9 and have until December 9 to file their intent to run documents with the secretary of state.
 
2014 Election
 

  • December 9, 2013 – Filing deadline for 2014 primary
  • January 15, 2014 – Fundraising reports made public
  • February 2, 2014 – Campaign finance reports due 30 days before primary
  • February 24, 2014 – Campaign finance reports due 8 days before primary
  • March 4, 2014 – Primary election day
  • Early voting will be held Feb. 18 – Feb. 28
  • For districts which will require it, a runoff election will be held May 27; early voting for the runoff will be May 19 – May 23
  • November 4, 2014 – General election day
  • Early voting will be held Oct. 20 – Oct. 31
  • State ballot will include the transportation funding constitutional amendment

 
SD 4 Special Election to replace Sen. Tommy Williams
 

  • March 10, 2014 – Filing deadline for special election
  • May 10, 2014 – Election day
  • Early voting will begin April 28

 
HD 50 Special Election to replace Rep. Mark Strama
The election took place November 5 and will require a runoff between Celia Israel (D) and Mike VanDeWalle (R).  The runoff has been scheduled for January 28, 2014.
