The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee voted 34-19 Tuesday to approve legislation that would block the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gas emissions and repeal new clean air mandates for refineries. Specifically, the Energy Tax Prevention Act would amend the Clean Air Act to prohibit the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency from promulgating any regulation concerning, taking action relating to, or taking into consideration the emission of a greenhouse gas to address climate change, and for other purposes.
The U.S. House is set to consider the bill before its Easter recess next month. A similar proposal is rumored to be heard in the Senate as early as next week.
It is reported that President Barack Obama would likely veto any such legislation.
