Rule changes based on legislation from the 83rd legislative session:
- Requirement from a Rep. Y Davis bill to report deaths from HAI
- This data is already being collected but has never been made public
- Currently making changes to the system
- A larger rule regarding potentially preventable adverse events reporting is in draft form
- Please see attached for the draft rule language
- Still many months down the road before a formal rule is produced
- Reporting will be phased in over 3 years
- There is concern with legislation language that references “death resulting from” vs. CMS language that says “death associated with
- They are asking for legislation to change to reference to the CMS language since it creates an obstacle with NHSN reporting
- Their intention is not to require duplicate reporting
- Unsure of what the potential success is in getting legislative change
