The committee met to  review the current penalties for operating a commercial motor vehicle that is in violation of state or federal safety standards, evaluate the role of state and local law enforcement agencies in enforcing commercial motor vehicle standards, and make recommendations to ensure the safety of the traveling public. The committee discussed the implications of having local law enforcement to enforce commercial motor vehicle standards.  The committee heard testimony from the members of the trucking industry and representatives from the Department of Public Safety and Motor Vehicles.
