Below is the HillCo client report from the October 7 House Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee hearing.
This report covers only the comments made in regards the draft legislation regarding the Driver Responsibility Program.
Chair Joe Pickett
- Noted some changes were made to the draft legislation including but not limited to purchasing insurance for 6 months and providing detailed research on what that would cost
Rep. Tim Kleinschmidt
- Irritated that truck drivers and commercial license holders in personal vehicles get treated differently than the public
- Would like to see that when they are in a personal vehicle that they are treated like they have a non-commercial license for any offense that happens in their personal vehicle
- Cannot take drivers safety course if you have a CDL for example
- Proposed language continues to treat CDL holders differently even in their private vehicles
