State Representative Carl Isett Tenders Early Resignation

CONSERVATIVE STATESMAN SAYS MOVE IS BEST FOR HOUSE DISTRICT 84

LUBBOCK, TX—Respected State Representative, Carl Isett, announced his plans to vacate his House Seat in the Texas Legislature effective May 31st. Isett intends to tender his official resignation by letter to Governor Rick Perry in the near future and will meet with him soon after to discuss a timely transition. He also formally notified Speaker Joe Straus by letter so that the Speaker may fill Isett’s position on the influential Sunset Commission.

When asked why he decided to vacate the seat early, Isett stated that with at least three new members headed to Austin from the South Plains and the Panhandle, it only makes sense to give every advantage possible to those new members. “If Governor Perry calls a special election, and John Frullo can prevail, he will have the seniority of a second term representative. And if he can dive into the Appropriations process in my stead, he will have a much larger role in the next legislative session,” said Isett. The legislature is preparing to address a budget shortfall that some predict could be as high as 18 Billion Dollars.

Isett also said that he is scheduled to travel extensively through the next several months for training and serving in the United States Navy as well as for his professional career. “My other commitments are placing a lot of strain on my schedule which might hinder my effectiveness in Austin for the duration of my term. I have always tried to focus on what was best for the district, and this decision reflects that commitment.”

Originally elected in 1996, Isett has served Lubbock in the state house for seven terms with honor and distinction. He is recognized statewide for his strong conservative philosophy and leadership in reforming state government.

“It has been a great privilege and blessing to serve my fellow West Texans in Austin,” said Isett. “I will always appreciate the citizens who not only honored me with their vote, but also partnered with me to accomplish great things for Texas. I am very thankful for my staff who labored side by side with me over the years. More importantly, I am eternally grateful to my precious family. Truly, without their years of sacrifice and support, it would not have been possible for me to serve the citizens of Lubbock.”
