SB 1 (Bettencourt) Relating to a temporary reduction in the maximum compressed tax rate of a school district and the form of the ballot proposition to be used in an election to approve a tax rate adopted by a school district that exceeds the district’s voter-approval tax rate; making an appropriation passed the Senate as amended (30-1) on 9/22. Amendments include providing notices of tax bill differences and ensuring a district’s total property tax rate does not exceed the voter approved rate. The bill will now move to the House for further consideration.

SB 3 (Perry) Relating to requiring public school students to compete in interscholastic athletic competitions based on biological sex passed the Senate (19-12) on 9/22. The bill will now move to the House for further consideration.

SB 5 (Lucio) Relating to the unlawful restraint of a dog; creating a criminal offense passed the Senate as amended (29-2) on 9/22. Amendments to the bill include adding definitions, removing language relating to harnesses, and added certain exemption language. The bill will now move to the House for consideration.

SJR 1 (Huffman) Proposing a constitutional amendment requiring a judge or magistrate to impose the least restrictive conditions of bail that may be necessary and authorizing the denial of bail under some circumstances to a person accused of a violent or sexual offense or of continuous trafficking of persons passed the Senate (28-3) on 9/22. The resolution will now move to the House for further consideration.
