On January 27, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick announced the creation of a new Senate Committee on Border Security. Previously, border-related issues were handled by the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs & Border Security. The committee will now be broken into two. In a statement, the Lt. Governor said this new committee was created in response to the “the influx of illegal immigrants and drugs across our border and our significant increase in funding and personnel to the border.”
Currently, there are three members who have been assigned to this new committee:
- Sen. Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury) Chair
- Sen. Bob Hall (R-Edgewood)
- Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa (D-McAllen)
