Today was the first day lawmakers could file bills for the 85th Texas legislative session. In the first day of prefiling, a record breaking total of  511 bills and resolutions were filed,* the largest amount in over two decades. Until today the first day pre-filing record, in the last thirteen regularly held sessions, was in the 81st Session with 423 bills and resolutions.

Last session there were 371 bills and resolutions filed during the first day of pre-filing and in 82nd Regular Session there were 257 bills and resolutions filed but that filing frenzy slowed down as 56 additional bills and resolutions were filed for remainder of the week.
