The State Board of Education met on January 26 to adopt operating rules and to announce committee jurisdiction changes and committee memberships.

Spotlight on Committee Jurisdiction Changes

 Committee on Instruction – Moved consideration of Instructional Materials Proclamation out of this committee to the Committee of the Full Board since it is taken up by the full board. They will also explicitly state their current practice of considering curriculum implementation which includes credit by examination, Texas Advanced Placement Incentive Program, and procedures concerning dyslexia and related disorders.

  • Committee on School Finance – Will review nominations for gubernatorial appointments, Teacher Retirement Systems, School Land Board
  • Committee of Full Board – Will take Instructional materials proclamation and adoption and Consideration of the Commissioner of Education’s open-enrollment charter school proposals
  • The Committee on School Initiatives will still the review and evaluation of charter school applications, review, and amendments the commissioner of education proposed to grant
