The State Board of Education is currently reviewing feedback from the regularly scheduled meeting held September 10-13 regarding instructional materials submitted for adoption under Instructional Materials Review and Approval Cycle 2024.
During the meeting, the board heard over 8 hours of public testimony on K-5 mathematics and English and Spanish language arts & reading instructional materials under the direction of House Bill (HB) 1605 (88R). IMRA reports were made available to the public. The TEA published reports that provide an overview of the review process. The IMRA reports can be found here. Key reports include:
- State Review Panelist (SRP) Feedback Report: Contains feedback, suggestions and identified content errors from state review panelists, as well as any suitability flags for prohibited content, along with publishers’ responses.
- Public Feedback Report: Lists public comments, reported errors and suitability flags for prohibited content, along with the publishers’ responses.
- Publisher-Identified Changes, Corrections and New Content Report: Contains new content, error corrections and editorial changes submitted by publishers during the review process.
The SBOE will consider the feedback, reports, and data collected during the review process to inform decisions pending adoption, set for the November scheduled meeting. In other action, the board discussed the schedule for future IMRA cycles and the development of draft rubrics for the 2025 cycle.
The SBOE will reconvene the week of November 19, 2024.
