The Sunset Advisory Commission is an independent state agency composed of 12 members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor and the Speaker of the House. The overall purpose of the Sunset Advisory Commission’s review is to assess the need to retain the agency, look for potential duplication of programs, and consider changes to improve agency operation. 

Sunset this session included a total of 28 reviews of agencies in areas such as transportation, insurance, environmental quality, and energy. The recommendations adopted at the Sunset Advisory Commission hearings will be considered in Sunset legislation by the 82nd Texas Legislature.
