On February 12, 2014, the TCEQ Commissioners will consider adopting revisions to the Texas Surface Water Quality Standards. In addition to topics discussed in the 2012 stakeholder meetings, the Commission will also consider adopting language regarding the addition of a definition for industrial cooling water areas, clarification of the allowance of different mixing zone sizes for specific numeric criteria, and the addition of a second category of primary contact recreation (PCR 2).

A preamble included with the revised rule language has a section-by-section discussion of all changes being considered for adoption and the formal response to public comments. The material is posted under the topic heading “Pending Rule Adoptions” on the Rules Proposals and Adoption Page.

If adopted by the Commissioners on February 12th, the Texas Surface Water Quality Standards will be published in the Texas Register on February 28, 2014, and become effective as a state rule on March 13, 2014. The rule project number – 2012-001-307-OW.
