The Educator Leadership and Quality (ELQ) Department at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) will become the Educator Preparation, Certification, and Enforcement (EPCE) Department. Ryan Franklin, who will step down by the end of this month, notes this is a name change only and does not designate any broader change to the work or the department. Marilyn Cook, the current Director of Educator Certification, will serve as the interim leader for the EPCE Department while the agency works to fill the open associate commissioner role.
