Tyler ISD is partnering with local organizations and non-profits to offer families a combination of academic and enrichment experiences this summer. A “Magic Literacy Bus” will make literacy accessible to their community by stationing the bus, outfitted with books and literacy activities, in parks, neighborhoods, and other community centers. The bus was funded by a grant from the Tyler Foundation and books donated by the Junior League of Tyler.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Christy Hanson outlined a plan for summer learning that includes about 90 minutes of reading and math instruction each morning and a fun, camp-like environment in the afternoon thanks to the support of their non-profit partner. In addition to intervention resources for teachers to use, teachers will be provided with professional development training to ensure they are using best practices
