The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is requesting information related to two species in Texas – the endangered whooping crane and the Oklahoma grass pink orchid that has been petitioned for listing.
FWS is requesting information regarding its proposed rule to reintroduce the endangered whooping crane into habitat in its historic range on the state-owned White Lake Wetland Conservation Area in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. FWS announced on Aug. 24, 2010, that the Oklahoma grass pink orchid may warrant federal protection as a threatened or endangered species. The historical range of this species is in areas of moist, loamy prairies, savannas and sandy woodlands from central Minnesota southward to Texas.
