According to initial data from the TWC, 47,497 claims were filed the week of September 19; which continues the trend of a decrease in applications. Approximately 3.53 million unemployment claims have been filed in Texas since March 14. Additionally, the TWC announced since Texas’ unemployment rate dropped to 6.8%, the State will no longer receive the High Unemployment Period extension. According to the DOL’s weekly unemployment claims report, initial data shows 870,000 claims for the week ending September 19, which continues the trend of a leveling off in applications. The national unemployment rate was 8.6%; which remains unchanged from the previous week. The advance number for nationwide insured unemployment for the week of September 12 was 12,580,000; which is a decrease of 167,000 from the previous week.
