In his State of Texas Higher Education remarks on Nov. 21, 2019, Texas Higher Education Commissioner Harrison Keller told governing board members that the need for postsecondary education has never been greater than it is today. Support Keller said the THECB can provide include:

  • Making certain data is more accessible and useful, to help inform and support planning and operations, and to better inform Texas students and their families about educational and career opportunities
  • Working closely with institutions to help make the pathways to high-value credentials clearer for Texas students and their advisers
  • Making changes in THECB reports data to better reflect institutions’ contributions to student success

“We have to work with urgency, much faster than higher education institutions and the agency have historically operated. We have to work together to accelerate the pace of innovation,” Keller stated in his remarks.
