The Preparing and Retaining Educators through Partnerships (PREP) Program Allotment, created by House Bill 2 (89-R), was created to strengthen the quality of teacher recruitment, preparation, and mentorship across the state. Participation in the program is optional for open enrollment charters and eligible school districts.

The PREP Program Allotment funds the following five partnership types:

  • PREP Mentorship
  • PREP Grow Your Own
  • PREP Preservice Residence
  • PREP Preservice Traditional
  • PREP Preservice Alternative Certification

Each PREP Program type includes a specific funding formula structure in statute and provides funding for up to a specific number of supported teacher candidates or employees per year per school system.

Governor Abbott recently announced $40 million to 411 Texas school systems through the PREP program.

More information can be found through the PREP Program Allotment Guidebook and the PREP Allotment Financial Planning Tool. Additionally, an instructional video on how to use the financial planning tool can be found here. Each of these resources was updated October 23rd.
