Governor Greg Abbott has announced that $25 million in grant funding will be made available by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) for eligible hospitals that serve rural communities.
HHSC will award grants over 3 years, with a maximum award of $5 million. The Innovation Grant supports rural hospitals and other related public entities that provide essential care. The purpose of the funding is to strengthen these entities financial stability and improving patient outcomes.
Qualified rural hospitals can apply for a grant until May 28. Priority will be given to initiatives that improve health care facilities and services for:
- Pregnant women or mothers who have recently given birth
- Children and teens
- Older adults
- People who are uninsured
