Governor Greg Abbott has activated the TDEM Texas State Emergency Operations Center (SOC) to Level II (Escalated Response) to support the state’s New World Screwworm response. The escalated response level allows the SOC to coordinate their response with multiple partners throughout the state as well as mobilize additional statewide emergency response resources. The SOC will be manned by representatives from the TAHC, TPWD, TDA, DSHS, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, and Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. Previously, the Governor issued a disaster declaration for all Texas counties, which authorized the use of Texas’ disaster response resources to respond to New World Screwworm.
Other state agencies have also issued orders and responses:
- TAHC issued and expanded an executive order restricting certain animal movement in La Salle, Uvalde, Zavala, and Webb Counties (6/5/26 Order, 6/7/26 Order)
- DSHS published a press release providing information on New World Screwworm and advising providers to be aware of cases possibly presenting in patients (Link)
- TPWD released a situational update on the New World Screwworm and the status of cases in Andrews, La Salle, and Zavala Counties (Link)
