Texas Comptroller Don Huffines has released updated estimates for statewide taxable property values for tax years 2026 through 2028. The data from these estimates supports budgeting for the 2028-29 biennium.
For the 2025 tax year, the final statewide taxable property value is estimated at $4.12 trillion. This marks the first time in over a decade that year-over-year taxable values have essentially remained unchanged.
The Comptroller’s office estimates that statewide taxable property value will increase to $4.33 trillion in 2026, a 5.07% increase from 2025. These estimates reflect recent policy changes such as the voter‑approved increase in the school district homestead exemption to $140,000, a temporary 20% appraisal cap on certain non‑homestead properties, and adjustments to exemptions for income‑producing tangible personal property.
Growth is estimated to continue moderately in 2027 and 2028, with the Comptroller projecting a 2.53% increase in 2027 and a 5.66% increase in 2028 on taxable value.
