The previously named National Blue Ribbon Schools program has been transitioned back to state leadership.
The U.S. Department of Education announced that the National Blue Ribbon Schools program was being discontinued in a letter to state education officials on August 29th. States had already nominated schools for the federal program by this date, and some schools had been informed that they were selected.
States are exploring options going forward. Texas and Connecticut have established their own statewide blue ribbon programs.
Governor Abbott has announced the 28 Texas Schools that make up the inaugural class of Lone Star Ribbon Schools. The 2025 Lone Star Ribbon Schools were selected in recognition of outstanding academic performance and progress in closing achievement gaps.
The 28 schools selected for the 2025 Lone Star Blue Ribbon Schools are:

- Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD – Kent Elementary
- Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD – Rosemeade Elementary
- Dallas – St. Rita Catholic School
- George West ISD – George West Primary School
- Harmony Public Schools (Houston West) – Harmony Science Academy – Katy
- Harmony Public Schools (Houston West) – Harmony Science Academy – Sugar Land
- Harmony Public Schools (North Texas) – Harmony Science Academy – Euless
- Houston ISD – Carnegie Vanguard High School
- Houston ISD – Project Chrysalis Middle School
- Houston ISD – Thompson Elementary
- Houston – Jack Segal Academy of Beth Yeshurun
- Hunt ISD – Hunt School
- La Joya ISD – Diaz-Villarreal Elementary
- Lamar CISD – Meyer Elementary
- Laredo ISD – Daiches Elementary
- Laredo ISD – D D Hachar Elementary
- Laredo ISD – Macdonell Elementary
