TEA has updated their 89th Legislature FAQs page to include information on SB 25.

SB 25 prohibits student restriction from physical activity as part of the PE curriculum, including recess.

Existing state law requires that students participate in a minimum amount of daily physical activity.

Participation in PE cannot be restricted as a penalty due to a student’s behavior or academic performance. Similarly, a student cannot be removed from recess or PE to receive additional instruction.

However, if a student’s minimum number of minutes of daily physical activity has been met, recess time or other physical activity that is not part of the PE requirement is not subject to the requirements of SB 25.

More information can be found on TEA’s 89th Legislature FAQs page.
