The Ad Hoc Committee on Mathematics Instruction Framework of the State Board of Education (SBOE) will hold a public hearing at 9:00am on Friday, July 25, at the William B. Travis Building in Austin. Individuals can register for public testimony here, starting at 8:00am on July 22, until 5:00pm on July 23.
Committee members are interested in hearing testimony on the following subjects:
- Areas in the current TEKS that effectively promote mathematical fluency, conceptual understanding, and skills mastery
- Gaps that exist in the current TEKS that impact long-term retention, problem-solving fluency, and integration of behavioral strategies
- How can the TEKS be updated to support better math scores?
- Do the current standards effectively promote mathematical fluency, conceptual understanding, and functional skill mastery?
- What structural issues exist that may limit the effective implementation of explicit instruction?
- Thoughts on the effectiveness of educator preparation programs in preparing teachers to provide strong math instruction
