Texas State Board of Education member Georgina Cecilia Pérez sent a letter to Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas Education Agency Commissioner Morath asking that they waive administration of the STAAR, TELPAS, and all end-of-course (EOC) assessments for the 2020-21 school year. In her letter, she argues that “the potential consequences attached to the STAAR outcomes are serious,” and that, “administration of high-stakes tests this year would only add to this stress, while jeopardizing students’ academic careers and subjecting schools to the threat of sanctions based on unreliable STAAR data.” Please see here for the letter to Gov. Abbott.
