The committee was created last year by the passage of House Bill 2197. The purpose of the committee is to study charitable bingo and the distribution of the revenue that such bingo generates. Committee members will also study the potential impact of eliminating the state lottery.

Rep. John Kuempel of Seguin will co-chair the committee. Its membership will also include Reps. Giovanni Capriglione of Southlake, Garnet Coleman of Houston, Rick Miller of Sugar Land and Senfronia Thompson of Houston.

HB 2197 called for the committee to include five members of the House and five members of the Texas Senate. It will report its findings and recommendations to the Legislature by December 1.
