Today SB 1066 by Estes, relating to adding certain synthetic stimulants to Penalty Group 2 of the Texas Controlled Substances Act, was heard on the Senate floor. The bill adds six substances to Penalty Group 2 that are used to make “bath salts,” a drug that can have effects similar to cocaine or amphetamines and be bought legally online or in smoke shops. SB 1066 passed out of the Senate with 31 ayes and zero nays.
