It has been reported by several sources that State Rep. Dan Gattis, R-Georgetown, is abandoning his campaign for the Texas Senate District 5 and, incumbent Sen. Steve Ogden, R-Bryan, will not retire as he originally stated, but will now run for re-election in District 5.

According to Jason Embry with the Austin American Statesman:

Gattis won’t rule out another run for office. Every seat in the House and Senate is up for re-election in 2012, after legislative districts are drawn. With Williamson County growing quickly, it’s possible that the Senate seat will be more compact, making it easier for Gattis to run. However, the source said Ogden and Gattis have made no deal about who will and won’t run in 2012. Several candidates are already running for Gattis’ House seat, which he will not try to regain.

An announcement is expected sometime tomorrow.
