The Texas Tribune has released a guide to the Texas 2026 March Primary Ballot. Multiple statewide seats are on the ballot, including governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general, as well as legislative and congressional offices. Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson encourages voters to review official election information in advance so they can arrive at the polls prepared and confident.

Early voting begins on February 17th. Other key dates can be found below:

  • Monday, Feb. 2, 2026: Last day to register to vote for the primary
  • Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026: Early voting begins (in person)
  • Friday, Feb. 20, 2026: Last day to apply for a ballot by mail (received, not postmarked)
  • Friday, Feb. 27, 2026: Early voting ends (in person)
  • Tuesday, March 3, 2026: Primary Election Day
    • This is also the last day counties can receive a ballot by mail.
  • Tuesday, May 26, 2026: Primary Runoff Election Day (if needed)

January 2026 Voter Registration Statistics

Once available, the Secretary of State will upload voter registration statistics for January 2026 on their website. As of November 2025, there were just under 18.5 million voters registered statewide.

Primary Election

The 2026 Primary Election will be held on March 3rd, 2026. Early voting begins on February 17th and continues through February 27th. If needed, primary election runoffs will be held on May 26th.
