The Railroad Commission of Texas has released drilling permit and completion statistics for February 2026. The Railroad Commission issued a total of 579 drilling permits. This total includes 501 permits to drill new oil or gas wells, 11 to re-enter plugged wellbores, 14 field transfer, 52 for re-completion and 1 reclass.
The breakdown of well types for total original drilling permits in February 2026 is as follows:
- 841 oil
- 296 gas
- 140 injection completions
Over the course of February, Commission staff processed 841 oil, 296 gas, and 140 injection completions.
