The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released correspondence regarding the Texas Mathematics Academies Pilot. Classroom teachers who provide mathematics instruction, principals, assistant principals, mathematics instructional coaches, and mathematics interventionists at campuses serving grades K–3 are required to attend Texas Mathematics Academies by the 2030–31 school year.
In preparation for SY 2027–28, the authorized provider application will open, and organizations and districts may apply. Additionally, districts will have the option to adopt a local implementation model in the 2027–28 school year.
The implementation timeline is as follows:
SY 2026–27 (Pilot Year)
- Identify if your school system is interested in participating in the Texas Mathematics Academies pilot year.
- Contact your ESC if interested (limited opportunities available).
Pilot School Systems
- Design an intentional professional learning calendar aligned to pilot needs.
- Partner with an ESC or, if a district has 70,000+students, apply to become an authorized provider.
All School Systems
- Send a district mathematics professional development leader through the Texas Mathematics Academies pilot to become familiar with the content and structure.
SY 2027–28 through 2030–31
- Start Texas Mathematics Academies participation with district planning the year before full implementation.
- Integrate Texas Mathematics Academies into the district professional calendar.
- Plan to send all required educators to Texas Mathematics Academies.
- Monitor implementation of progress and instructional impact.
- If interested, apply to become an authorized provider or partner with an authorized provider for local implementation (like the Reading Academies model).
SY 2031–32 and Beyond
- Sustain districtwide implementation and continuous improvement.
- Continue to meet the Texas Mathematics Academies requirements for required educators.
