On August 30, 2018, the district court ordered the state legislature to adopt a remedial plan for House District 90 no later than within 45 days of the start of the 2019 regular legislative session. Should the legislature fail to meet that deadline, the court noted it would proceed to adopt a remedial plan of its own.

Texas will undergo complete redistricting in the legislative session following the 2020 United States Census. In preparation for the 87th, lawmakers may file legislation addressing the redistricting process during the 86th Session – for example, Donna Howard has filed HJR 25 proposing a constitutional amendment establishing the Texas Redistricting Commission.

The National Conference of State Legislatures has a page dedicated to redistricting resources and restricting case summaries.
