On July 18, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) released a response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 2015 ozone attainment/nonattainment designations. TCEQ agreed with the EPA designations for Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, and Wilson Counties as Attainment/Unclassifiable for the 2015 ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), but disagreed with the EPA’s decision to designate Bexar County as nonattainment. TCEQ stated that the designation “creates an unnecessary burden on the residents, industry, and governing bodies of Bexar County without any associated benefit from an air quality perspective.” For more information on TCEQ’s statements in response, please see the press release here.
