Governor Greg Abbott has set special elections for vacant House Districts 79 and 145 on January 29 and House District 125 on February 12. HD 79 was left vacant late last year as Rep. Joe Pickett resigned due to health concerns, HD 125 was left vacant after Rep. Justin Rodriguez was appointed Bexar County Commissioner, and HD 145 was left vacant upon Sen. Carol Alvarado’s election to the Texas Senate.
There is potential for another special election later this year to replace Rep. Eric Johnson as he has announced his candidacy for the Dallas Mayoral race on May 4, however Rep. Johnson is not required to give up his legislative seat to run and intends to serve his term while campaigning.
