AG Ken Paxton has joined a multistate amicus brief in an ongoing petition requesting Supreme Court review of the State of Hawaii’s open carry licensure program. The petition follows a 2020 decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that upheld Hawaii’s licensure program requiring citizens to demonstrate a need to openly carry firearms. While the current case concerns Hawaii-specific law, the amicus brief participants note an interest in “clarity of Second Amendment Law” and ensuring “that their residents will not be deprived of their Second Amendment freedoms.” The full brief is available here.
