The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released Beach Report: 2023 Swimming Season (PDF), a national summary of beach closings and advisories from the 2023 swimming season. This annual report is based on information submitted to the EPA by the 30 states, four Tribes and five territories with coastal and Great Lakes beaches who received BEACH Act grants from the EPA. These jurisdictions took water samples at swimming beaches to measure if levels of specific bacteria exceeded the applicable water quality standards.

The EPA monitors 168 beaches in Texas and all 168 beaches have a system to notify the public if swimming is unsafe. For more information on beach closure and public notice statistics, as well as possible pollutant information, see the EPA’s 2023 Beach Report (PDF) and the EPA’s searchable beach database.
