In a letter sent January 28 to all state agency heads, Governor Greg Abbott called for higher standards in the State’s contracting and procurement process, including specific reforms aimed at restoring the public trust in the contracting process.

Governor Abbott expressed his support for contracting reform legislation announced previously by Sen. Jane Nelson (SD-12). Sen. Nelson’s bill, SB 353, seeks to strengthen oversight of state government contracts through reforms that will also allow for greater transparency.

While the legislation is pending and remains a work in progress, state agency heads will be expected to comply with the reforms outlined in Governor Abbott’s letter effective February 1.
