Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Scott Brister, Melissa Martin, Elvira Reyna, and Todd Williams to the Texas Commission on Public School Finance for terms at the pleasure of the Governor, with Brister also named as chair.

  • Scott Brister, Chair – Partner at Andrews Kurth Kenyon LLP. Previously, he served as a Justice on the Supreme Court of Texas, Justice and Chief Justice of the First and Fourteenth Courts of Appeals, and judge of the 234th Judicial District Court.
  • Melissa Martin – Career and technology teacher for the Galena Park Independent School District.
  • Elvira Reyna – Former state representative for House District 101 and is currently serving as a member of the Texas Board of Professional Engineers.
  • Todd Williams – Founding chairman and executive director for The Commit Partnership and also serves as the Education Policy Advisor to Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings.

The commission is charged with developing recommendations on public school funding and is expected to deliver a report recommending improvements to the governor and legislature by the end of 2018.
