Today, bill author and House Public Education Committee Chair Dan Huberty, R- Houston, made a motion to appoint conferees to HB 21 relating to public school finance. The conference committee can then work on differences between the Senate and House versions.
Adopted instructions to conference committee:
- Support spirit of House vote to prohibit the use of money to support private school education; the conferees may not adopt any legislation that requires the state to support, tax credit program, ESA or voucher program where state money is used for private education.
- To look for any additional funds to support hardship grants.
Appointed Conferees: Huberty (chair), King of Hemphill, VanDeaver, Bernal and Ashby.
