On April 14, the House Committee on Transportation met to take up interim charges relating to maritime and rail transportation systems in the state as well as to hear a general update on Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.
 
James Bass, Interim Executive Director and CFO of TxDOT updated the agency on cost saving measures being taken at the department including Prop 14 debt refinancing, the Fleet Forward program and others. Chairman Larry Phillips cautioned TxDOT not to place cost savings above safety.  The directors of both the TxDOT Maritime Division and Rail Division gave updates on their programs as well.  Both divisions noted their reliance on federal funds to continue with expansion and maintenance projects.
