Celia Israel (D) won the special election run-off for HD 50 with 59% of the vote (6,129 votes) over Mike VanDeWalle (R) who garnered 41% of the vote (4,185 votes).

Celia Israel was elected to serve out the unexpired term to replace state Rep. Mark Strama who resigned his seat in June of last year. Israel will face VanDeWalle again in November and by winning this run-off, she will now be favored to win the complete term during that election.
