As of Friday, a total of 453 House and Senate bills had been filed – a record number according to the Texas Legislature Online. The second most filed bills during a special session was during the 72nd 1st Called Session when 352 House and Senate bills were filed.
The House has passed out legislation addressing three items on the call (sunset legislation, local control/trees, abortion reporting requirements) and the Senate has passed legislation addressing almost all items on the call – a total of 20 bills. Bills that have passed out of the first chamber will now move on to the opposite chamber for further deliberation. Additionally, several House committees have heard testimony on legislation relating to the call and some bills have been voted out for further consideration on the House floor.
