Bills on the Move Spotlight
Governor Greg Abbott declared SB 5 an Emergency Matter
SB 5 (Huffman) relating to voter ID has been placed on the House Tuesday Calendar and was amended onto HB 2691 when it came up for consideration in the Senate on Sunday, May 21.
Property Taxes
SB 669 (Nelson) which now has SB 2 property tax language as substituted from the House amended into it, was passed out of the House on May 21 unanimously. It will now head back over to the Senate where they can either concur in the amendments or go to conference committee to work out the differences.
School Finance
HB 21 (Huberty) relating to public school finance was voted out of the Senate as substituted on the floor with 11 adopted floor amendments early Monday morning, May 22 with 21 ayes and 10 nays. The bill will now move back over to the House where they can either concur or go to conference committee to work on the differences.
“Bathroom Bill”
SB 2078 (Taylor) regarding multihazard emergency operations plans and other school safety measures, was given tentative approval in the House as amended on May 21 with 92 ayes and 49 nays. The adopted floor amendment by Rep. Chris Paddie addresses “restroom, locker room, and changing facility privacy and safety” on school campuses. The bill will come back up today in the House for third reading.

SB 2190 (Huffman) relating to the public retirement systems of certain municipalities – conference committee report has been filed.
