Senator Paul Bettencourt, chair of the Senate Select Committee on Property Tax Reform and Relief, gave a brief presentation of the committee’s work during a Senate Finance hearing noting the final report is expected out by November 1. Reforms that may be recommended in the report could include, but not limited to: the creation of an appointed board in the Comptroller’s Office to provide oversight over the property tax system including the ability to issue and enforce binding rulings, repeal the ability of a taxing unity to challenge the values of an entire class of properties, and improve the training of ARB members.
