All the January semiannual reports are available online, and thanks to the Texas Election Source, we have some general observations they made on the collective fundraising efforts of the candidates running for state and legislative office.

  • Overall, the statewide and legislative candidates have $122.5 million on hand as 2014 begins. Republicans have $95.3 million (78%), and Democrats have $27.1 million (22%).
  • Almost $1 out of every $3 raised went to gubernatorial frontrunners Greg Abbott and Wendy Davis.
  • Contributions to Abbott’s campaign represented almost 25% of all funds raised by Republican candidates. Davis raised 58% of all funds contributed to Democratic candidates.
  • Total principal loan balances for all candidates are $15.1 million.
